Charles Addams first created Addams Family Matriarch, Morticia, in an unpublished drawing in 1937. He described Morticia as "not patterned after anyone in particular, although I've often thought there was a little Gloria Swanson in her."

The first members of the Addams Family printed were Morticia, Lurch-the butler, and The Thing. Those familiar with the Addams Family will notice The Thing, and Lurch look different than their modern depictions.

I am moving my Wednesday posting of The Addams Family to !comics@lemmy.blahaj.zone

This is it, the moment we have been waiting, today is the 28th anniversary of The Boondocks' syndication.

I have done some more digging into the history of the strip, and I found the FAQ from Aaron's old website.

Question: How can I see the old-school Boondocks strips?

A: The Hitlist strips are pretty much gone forever. There were some really funny jokes but Aaron is highly sensitive about the style he drew them in. The characters have changed drastically since then. The O.G. fans know that Grits actually appeared a few times in those early days. Don't worry, he'll be back. The Diamondback (U of MD newspaper) strips will probably also never be seen again. Those were the ones we put up on our old site before the strip got syndicated. You can find the original Source strips in the June, July, and August issues from 1998. Most likely they won't ever get put up on this site but we'll let you know if that changes. Many of the situations from the earlier strips have been updated and worked into the current storylines. The ones that haven't resurfaced are ones that were topical for the time period. (i.e., the strip about KRS-One's basketball commercial) It is likely that more of the early storylines will be updated.

For those unfamiliar, I have, with the help of other internet sleuths, uncovered the pre-syndicated Boondocks strips that were published in The Diamondback college newspaper. I also found two of the three spreads printed in Source Magazine.

If you are a fan of The Boondocks the strip, or the tv show, come join us to see how it all started.

I have a few pounds of filberts, and I would like to make them into a savory snack. All the recipes i am finding are either some kind of candied, or as a breading, or in a salad.

I have made them before baked with soy sauce, and olive oil. They were okay, but they were not fantastic.

The Addams Family began not as a family, but as single nameless characters in Charles Addams' single panel comics in the New Yorker.

I have looked for some time trying to find a publication order for the strips, but have come up empty handed. So I will be sharing them in the order they appear in the book Drawn And Quartered on Wednesdays.

I know i switched books since last week, but as this was the first compilation released, i have a feeling there order will be more true to how they were released originally.

Drawn and Quartered title page with Pugsley.

Pugsy was not named until 1964, with the release of the TV Show.

Today we have three character that appears to be Morticia. Charles Addams' first wife was always assumed to be the inspiration for Morticia, but he met her years after the character's creation. He insisted the character was based on the qualities he found appealing in a woman, so it made sense he would marry someone who resembles Morticia.

I have a large kitchen aid stand mixer, and I love it... But sometimes i want a small mixer where i do not have to lift the 500 pound beast onto the counter.

Something this style:

They are chewing the millipedes, and then rubbing the saliva and millipede into their fur to act as an insecticide against malaria carrying mosquitoes.

However, this produces an unexpected side effect – the chemicals appear to send them into a “trancelike state” and a “condition of complete intoxication”.

Dune: the very concept of a sentient machine became abhorrent to humanity and they were obliterated by the Butlerian Jihad.

"A dingo ate my baby!" is a cry popularly attributed to Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton, as part of the 1980 death of Azaria Chamberlain case, at Uluru in the Northern Territory, Australia. The Chamberlain family had been camping near the rock when their nine-week-old daughter was taken from their tent. Prosecuting authorities rejected her story about a dingo as far-fetched, securing convictions for murder against her, along with her then-husband Michael Chamberlain as an accessory after the fact. After years of challenge in the courts, both parents were absolved of the crime, and a coroner found that Azaria was indeed killed by a dingo.

When I was in college at Eastern New Mexico, which is about 45 minutes west of Amarillo Texas, a couple friends, both from New England, had the bright idea of driving down to the gulf over a 4 day weekend.

I cautioned them against the idea, trying to explain Texas was bigger than they could imagine. Three hours into the trip we got a motel room in some hole in the wall town and went back to school the next morning.

This shows abuse more than anything. He was likely forced to use his right hand growing up and has never fully recovered.
