No argument here. I recently talked to someone who works for an insurance company and he said it feels like working for the mafia.

Gambling, tobacco, alcohol and all sorts of other addictive things are for profit, so why exclude cannabis?

I would advocate for treating other addictions the same way too.

Alcohol and tobacco ads are targeting young people because they're more likely to develop a lifelong addiction if you start them early enough. Gambling machines are set up to make people believe they can beat the system, so they stay hooked.

I just don't think these should be legitimate business models.

Ich habe so ein klappbares Küchenmesser, das nehme ich fast immer mit in den Urlaub.

That's not how renewables work. They don't produce electricity on demand (at least not solar and wind), their energy output is dependent on the weather. If there's no wind and no sun, they won't cover any demand spikes. Which is why baseload power like nuclear is pretty much useless in combination with renewables.

What is actually needed is flexible power that can be quickly adapted to the varying output from solar and wind. This is currently mostly done with natural gas, which we're trying to get away from. In the future, biomass, water and storage will cover that part, while demand response strategies will help reduce demand peaks during times of low energy production.

It's all part of the USB standard, there can be different "levels" of chargers. If I'm just travelling with my phone, I don't want to have to bring a 240W charger. It would be way too expensive and also too big/heavy. The good thing is, if you have to bring a big charger anyway, you can also use it to charge your phone or your headphones. That's what the standard is all about.

I raise the pigs, render the lard, and make actual soap. I was called arrogant.

This is totally unrelated, but how do you get rid of the smell? I love my lard soap (using store-bought lard) but it always has a very porky smell.

Where the fuck are my fellow car and tinkering nerds at? And no one does projects around the house? So few posts in some of the home owner communities as well.

I'm right here, where are you guys? Still looking for a good homeowner and DIY community on lemmy.

Technically, they could be fair but they're just always extremely overpriced. If you buy an app for $5 and use it for 5 years, it comes out at 8 cents a month. You'll never find an app subscription that costs you 8 cents a month, but that would be a fair deal.

The workshop even has wheelchair access. Not the house though. So grandpa, when you're done fixing the cabinets, you can stay right where you are, you're sleeping in the workshop. Here's a bucket in case you have to go.

Because it's something completely new that they don't fully understand yet. Computers have been good at math since always, everything else was built up on that. People are used to that.

Now all of a sudden, the infinitely precise and accurate calculating machine is just pulling answers out of its ass and presenting them as fact. That's not easy to grasp.

Just keep commenting, there are so many people here who aren't native English speakers. As long as it's somewhat understandable, it doesn't matter if you make mistakes. You'll get better over time.

The most important thing I learned on reddit is English. And the funny thing is, once you can write in English, you'll also be able to speak much better because you're not constantly looking for words.
