Mommy, that source available project is claiming to be Open Source™️! 🚨 🚓
To "waffle" comes from the 1956 movie Archie and the Waffle House. It's a reference how the main character Archie famously ate a giant stack of waffles and became a town hero.

what’s keeping YOU from switching to an atomic distro?
I tried switching to VanillaOS a month ago. I had a hell of a time getting my niche use-case to work, consisting of using Syncthing to sync my Obsidian notes to a server via Tailscale. Apparently, I had to create a custom VanillaOS image just to install Tailscale? Also, I couldn't get wl-copy
to work. Also, docs were out of date and missing.

I like Arch because I have control over the system. At least with VanillaOS (not sure about other immutable distros), it seems like I'm supposed to give up control or fight with the system to let me do what I want.
I actually have accidentally bricked my Linux system in the past, but that was a long time ago and I learned from the experience. So it's not a problem I currently have.
I still haven't gotten to doing this, but actually, I was thinking the locked down nature of VanillaOS might be fine for my parents. They currently only use their Mac for browsing the web and not much else. Seems like VanillaOS might be a good fit for users that don't have very demanding computing needs.
Would this cause a problem? I'm assuming this would be deserialized to the same value, no?
Yep! I recently created an account with https://www.openstreetmap.org/ and started mapping my local area. Fuck Google.

What's a farmer bath?
Being able to direct my own reccomender system, in order for it to be alligned with my goals and not with my addictive tendencies
AGREE! There are options for controlling the data side of things, Lemmy, Mastodon, Jellyfin, torrents, but I've definitely noticed the recommendation side of things is basically non-existent. What I miss the most from Spotify or Netflix isn't the music or movies, it's the recommendations. There's a ton of content outside the megacorps, but we don't have a good way to find it.
It would be awesome if we had an algorithm that we could control. We could tune it to whatever we want, instead of letting these giant megacorps shove their shit in front of us.
This is great! Thanks!
Lab-grown rocks
When I was getting married a few years ago, I remember thinking fuck real diamonds lab-grown are literally the same thing. I remember getting some push back from some weirdos about how "real" diamonds are some how better or how people will think I'm a cheapskate or how people will feel bad for my wife...
Well, fast forward a few years and literally nobody cares, thinks about, or has said anything negative about my wife's ring. We are both 1000000% happy and satisfied with the decision to buy lab grown.
I have friends and family who work in schools. They've all had to put out statements saying they won't cooperate with immigration to the extent they can.
Lemmy is my main social media. I don't use anything else. Occasionally, I still get reddit in my search results though.
Oh, I also use Discord.
