That's not how Schwalbe markets them on their own site. If I had to guess, Amazon probably has a field for all bike-related merchandise where you have to indicate the "gender" of bikes they're usable on, even if it doesn't make sense.

It has been my experience that city leaders reflexively accept the false narrative of shopowners and do awful things because of it. (For example: the center-running bikelanes on Valencia in San Francisco.) Or just rip out bike lanes.

Also, as a rule, shop owners always think they lose business from bike lanes. Incredibly frustrating.
