Oh, I agree it's a leap. It's just slightly less of a leap than complaining about the NSA. I'm not saying you're wrong about the knee-jerk reaction some Americans have to Chinese tech and China in general.
It's just that the sputtering nonsense makes very slightly more sense after you mentioned the ban in the original post. You opened a crack in the door, is what I'm saying, and if an American Jingoist Asshat can get his head in the crack, he's gonna get all the way in.
I can't remember the last time I felt so... seen.
Gotta ask, since it's my distro of choice... what's wrong with Fedora?
How. How am I doing that? I'm too tires to fight you, I'm just looking for information at this point.
Look, I'm really tired here. And I'm formally apologizing. I have so radically failed at making my point that you think I'm a reactionary. I'm not. I'm utterly convinced that the whole world is completely fucked, and the absolute best we can do is try to tread water as long as we can before drowning. Reacting? To what? To what end? The system's irrevocably broken, I can't do anything about it, so what's the point?
And I'm not particularly smart. I mean, I know some stuff, and I've been through a lot. But smart? Meh. When I was in the Army, I drove a tank for a living. Does that sound like the career choice of a smart man?
I'm just so fucking tired. Please tell me how anything you're doing will help. No sarcasm, I want to know. How do you move forward?
I'll quit shouting. I just don't have the spoons.
They really don't seem to, and yet I find myself agreeing with them...
It's not that bad, really. Nobara is Fedora based, and has access to their large package base. Nobara's custom update tools are also excellent.
Fedora doesn't have PPAs, but it does have COPR, which is kinda like halfway between PPAs and Arch's AUR. Lots of packages. I hardly ever compile anything from source these days.
I don't disagree with any of that. I'm not saying it's a bad recommendation overall. LTS releases are good for people that don't want to get their hands dirty and just want something that works.
But OP was specifically looking for something more up to date than KDE Neon... which is based on LTS. So while all your reasoning is valid as to why OP should use it, it's not what they're looking for. In fact, it's exactly what they're trying to move away from.
Plus, they're looking to expand their horizons. It's hard to do that by playing it safe.
You make good points. My jumping off the Fedora ship was a knee-jerk reaction to the RHEL doofusry, and not one based completely on rational thought, sadly. And now I've been hopping around spending more time researching stuff and trying things out than getting things done lol.
So yeah. I might just go back to Fedora...
And what part of what I said made you think I don't know that?
I'm aspedantic as anyone, but at this point you're being antagonistic. Either you legitimately don't know you're doing it, or you're intentionally trying to make people feel stupid. But you definitely know what people mean when they say they "trust" science.
Please stop. You're making pedants like me look bad.
Aw, man, does ignore actually work for you? Because I see shit I've ignored on my store page all the damn time.
