It can be a bit annoying sometimes, but there are solutions for almost anything, like alternative clients and frontends. I also think it's important to remember that this is not an all-or-nothing situation. Every little bit of privacy you can preserve helps, even if you still have to use their services sometimes.

If your example is mostly about chat then Beeper might be a good option for you. The messages on FB and IG would still go through Meta, but at least you don't have to install their apps.

I'm a bit split about this series. On one hand it has great world buliding, solid cinematography and style, interesting places and encounters, and so on. But on the other the main story is very bland, mostly about teasing you with the unknown, the tone flips wildly between goofy and serious, and I can't really sympathize with any of the characters. Kinda lika a typical Bethesda game I suppose, but it's not really working for me as a TV series.

The notice means they know about the problem but don't care enought to fix it, probably because of economic reasons. The only "pressure" you can exert is to try to make them care again, by not using their site and by promoting Firefox to your peers.

I believe the thinking should be the other way around.

No one wants to store your code, and you shouldn't store anybody's code either. But suppose you have a group of people who want to collaborate on (or just mirror) a codebase, so they already decided to store it on their machines. This project gives them a decentralized tool to coordinate their efforts, and their code/issues/patches will be stored and accessible as long as they are interested in it.

Like, the tool doesn't give you a reason to use it, but if you have a reason then here is a tool to help you.

How is this a thing??

Seems to heavily depend on your provider. Some work with the standard phone apps, some have their own apps, but most don't seem to offer it at all here in Germany. One even sends you an audio MMS instead and just calls that "Visual Mailbox". It's crazy to me that such a basic and useful feature still isn't just a standard thing on all phones.

Always have been, that's why calling it a scam has always been ridiculous. You can think about the feasibility of the project and quality of their decisions what you want, but they were always very honest and transparent about the work they are doing and the huge goal they are chasing.

The problem is that they don't communicate this and still ask for the full price.

Imagine I'm a gamer who wants to buy and play a working game today, not in half a year. Nothing on their store page indicates that the game isn't in a playable state yet, so I'd pay full price for a game I can't actually play. That's misleading at best, and a downright fraud at worst.

They could easily fix this by delaying the game or launching it as early access for people who don't mind playtesting a half-finished game, but they didn't.

Idk if it is what you're looking for, but there is Owncast. It's a federated alternative to Twitch, including support for the Fediverse.

Do we have any red port wine left?

Apparently it's based on matrix bridges, and you can self-host it if you want. Sounds intriguing imo.
