There's actually a lot of theory and early work out there on the topic of federated search. While existing search aggregators like Searx and YaCY certainly qualify as federated, search infrastructure built from the ground up with decentralization in mind would look very different.
I feel like this is effectively denialism at this point. We're looking at serious crop loss (80% by some estimates) across the US and Canada and it's only going to get worse without massive projects or geoengineering. Combine that with a Russia/Ukraine war and we're looking at 1,4,5,6 and 9 of the worlds top 10 wheat producers looking at a minimal crop. We're far closer to famine than we realize.
They do but primarily through SSO services and platform partnerships. This is their bridge into monetizing the broader fediverse.
Training AI and selling information directly are very different in the eyes of the law.
I am assuming you are referring to Eugene's post. The way he addresses it is actually fairly misleading. The Threads privacy policy explicitly states that they believe they have a right to monetize any data on any nodes connected to their network.
They do explicitly track your IP. Check the privacy statement listed in the OP.
Edit: Lol the way to change that is literally solidarity. They don't have a god given right to monetize our existence.
There's also the case where it is ILLEGAL for them to try to procure our data through non-consensual means. This is why threads is not launching in Europe.
I think it works if you have something akin to a youtuber coop. Something like nebula but with the fediverse in mind.
Exactly. I've even seen a fair amount of Mastodon essentialism when alternates are brought up, but in order to prevent a takeover we need a healthier ecosystem than anything they can offer. I think the threadiverse is in a healthier place with two major alternatives that have slightly different overall ideas about which direction things should go. All that said I love Mastodon. In my mind the killer feature for any of these apps is still a smart, private take on an intelligent content algorithm designed around human growth and personalization rather than doom scrolling and ad views.
I had this for almost a week one time. It was one of the most uncomfortable experiences I've ever had. I basically didn't sleep at all that week. I certainly never forgot sunscreen after that.
I've always wondered if it's some sort of allergic/immune reaction?
Do you know then that hot is still pretty broken?
