I think he has repo pre ChatGPT with legitimate usecases, while that would not be a conclusive proof, I cannot imagine some chatbot would bother with this.

This dude need to chill, he also pushed the systemd change, and in his blog he seems to believe android "advance flow" for sideloading protects users.

The one they are targeting is California's AB-1043, which still have three quarters of a year before it comes into effect...

I think this dude might get too excited for his new subscription of claude code or whatever, and decided to spam every project with these request. Some of these are reasonable, some are compliance in advance.

Also this dude writes two freaking blog every week with LLM. If I were him, I would try to find some joy in my personal life...

I mostly eat vegan food, and find beyond meat reasonably keeps my meat craving at bay. But I agree it is not the same as meat.

I feel if everything they said is true, then this is a reasonable solution. But from my many Youtube scammer video experience, like people have already mentioned, most scammers use standard remote access software, not some bespoke APK.

I have options to go to another country, but I choose to stay in the U.S. It certainly is not an easy decision given the many current and historical problem within the U.S. Like many of you, I believe Trump is the symptom, not the problem. The problem is much more deeply rooted and harder to get rid off.

Admittedly, my wife being in the U.S. is the largest driving force for me to remain in the U.S. Yet, here are some other advantages of the U.S. I have considered:

  • EU tried to push chat control repeatedly, the vote is always close; and U.K. already have strict age verification law for porn (and possibly VPN). U.S. is heading there, but at least my state has not attempted any of these ridiculous moves.
  • I really really enjoy the community in the U.S. city I live in, there is "real" farmers market, street fairs, local art conventions: there are fun events every weekend. Maybe I didn't try too hard when I was in London, but I am not able to find as much event in the U.K.: there are "farmers market" in London, but most of them just sell low quality importted plastic decoration/toys instead of actual groceries...
  • US is a top funder of scientific research: https://ncses.nsf.gov/pubs/nsb20257/global-r-d-and-international-comparisons-2 . Now even China is out-funding EU and UK, but I am certainly not going to China any time soon. There is way too much politics in Chinese academia, as far as I know.
  • I think education is a human right, and U.S. education is way more expensive than it should be. I don't want to defend it. But I believe U.S. has better educations thanks to the libral art system, where student have much more chance to interact and learn from professors compare to many top UK schools.
  • In general, even account for the out of pocket maximum for healthcare, many U.S. job still pays more than their U.K. counterpart. This means saving money in the U.S. and later move to a lower income country is easier than saving money in a lower income country and later move to the U.S. Working in the U.S. when I was young gives me more liberties and assets to move to other countries later in my life, if U.S. eventually collapse.

literally put shit on egg -- enshitification

I got a lot of flipboard content on mastodon, but I don't know if that "grows" flipboard.

I think this is already done in most part of computer science. In my field, Springer has very little shares left, and is actively being replaced by ACM and Schloss Dagstuhl, which are not only both non-profit but all open access.

Why have we been talking about EU chat control for years. How many time have this been voted on? and can people just keep popping up chat control if the previous one fail?

I am able to access it pretty consistently on interstellar and the web, but it is so slow it is not really a decent experience.

For me, connecting from the U.S., takes around 5 -- 15mins, but I can barely vote on anything.

I remember there is a post stating that LemmyNSFW is eating up the VPS resource, and the provider throttled the VPS, which also include FediNSFW. My guess is that after LemmyNSFW is down, people are eagar to backup that instance, which created an absurd amount of traffic.

Actually, VSCodium is open source (unlike VSCode), and completely free of AI.

I never talked to my parent about this, but I imagine way better. My dad is one of the earlier master degree holder in China. He got his PhD much later; I believe around his 40s.

At my age, my dad is an entry level doctor and my mom an entry level nurse. They live in a room of 10 square meter assigned by the hospital they work in.

I am at the end of my 20s and is an assistant professor; a very busy job, but nevertheless stable, which is an excellent perk in this economy. The pay is not bad (not as much as industry though) and the work is really fulfilling. The only unfortunate part is that I almost always need to work overtime. It is not uncommon for me to work from waking up to going to bed, if not working into midnight.
