I've noticed some people here practically yearn for disasters because it might hurt the rich. The absolutely staggering collateral damage to everyone else is ignored or waved away. It's very much a desperate "nothing left to lose" philosophy that's both sad and scary.

Is someone actually proposing that we're simply going to dump would-be colonists on Mars with a shovel and some O2 tanks then wave goodbye? Like, no shit we still need to work things out but that just means it's unknown, not impossible.

This book seems unnecessarily pessimistic. I don't know why I would spend money on doomscrolling, Kindle Edition.

Did you ever see James May's OG Top Gear piece on Honda's hydrogen car? I think about it a lot. That alternatives to ICE cars is the way to save ICE cars for enthusiasts.

You can install some app that lets you override the Netflix button. I forget the name but I've set mine to be a mute toggle.

You're selling Comcast short there. They put in the effort, they should get 1st place. Please have their medal ready somewhere between 6am and 2pm on Tuesday, if they don't cancel.

Nexus 7 was such a great tablet. I came across it in the Drawer of Old Things, long since broken but kept around regardless. It's hilarious how it's only slightly bigger than some phones. I can even stuff it into my pocket.

Effective prevention of climate change is and has been politically impossible, like you said.

Maybe I'm just depressed about it all but I've moved on to the unfortunate "resilience" (or acceptance) phase. It's coming and it's not slowing down. So what are we going to do about? The answers differ depending on where you live. Some places just aren't going to survive. The ones that do are going to have strained resources to withstand extreme climate effects while simultaneously having a refugee problem.

Uhh, the cold isn't the problem. It's too expensive to live here and the real fix for housing (forced upzoning by the State) is a political nonstarter.

But I will gladly shovel snow versus face the heat, humidiity, snakes, bears, tornadoes, severe hurricanes, drought, wild fires, car oriented development, and whatever other nightmares the rest of the country has to offer. Just get a good coat, LL Bean boots, and a snowblower. It's not that bad.

In Carson v. Makin, our lovely SCOTUS ruled that Maine should be forced to fund religious schools.

When can I get an iPhone without iMessage being preinstalled? Microsoft is, if anything, late to the party on this kind of anti-user BS.

Google Voice is not available in my country. Plus, it’s Google.

Also, Google Voice takes my top pick for the next round of Google product executions. It receives no updates: no RCS, no fake iMessage support (parsing the Liked "prev message" stuff), and it's buggy as shit.

I'd gladly even pay for GVoice if it meant it got a renovation and it was going to outlast Google's attention span. Telephony is something I just don't want to self-host because there's no way telecom companies will make it easy.
