I put the phrase in quotes to indicate the meaning of treating someone poorly. Treating animals poorly is not appropriate.

But my point is that animals should not be treated "like animals" either. They should be included in the social contract and afforded a basic minimum of respect and autonomy, not enslaved and exploited.

I think it should be possible to break the culinary categorisation down to chemistry. That doesn't tell you anything about the "why" but it's definitely not random and definitely not all in our heads.

I agree with what you mean in kind of a broad-strokes way, but as individuals our subjective experiences of flavors can vary pretty wildly. There's genetics, neurology, age, and habit/experience that influence our taste in terms of actually sensing the chemicals. Then there's what we see, taste, and smell just prior or during tasting that severely impact our interpretation of that chemical sense.

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding your post, but cashews are drupes, not nuts. I don't know whether all true nuts come from trees, but all the ones I can think of do.

Nice job tricking me into subscribing just so I can see the trail cam footage later. This has gotta be my favorite cryptid.

Playing a game like this involves a heavier server load compared to normal use, right? Would that incur a significant cost to said alternative? (I don't actually know how the magic box works.)

I've tried to go vegan I think three times in my life, and vegetarian a few more times than that. I struggle with concrete issues like celiac, but also vague ones like suicidal ideation and digestive issues. And then there's also the simple economic fact that when certain meats are on sale they're actually cheaper per gram of protein than beans.

I don't mean to say that there are those of us who should eat meat and we therefore require a meat industry, just to explain why some of us have trouble. To the contrary, I think my issues have been exacerbated by a world that insists meat is necessary. If being vegan were the standard, I would have a greater variety of options and more affordability, and medical professionals would be both more accepting and more knowledgeable in providing me aid.

e: "Vegan" is actually incorrect here. There are problems with the honey industry, but I don't think beekeeping is inherently unethical, and I don't oppose symbiotic forms of animal exploitation. I don't know what the word for that would be.

Sorry if I'm being emotionally dense, but what's the logic behind removing it? In what way is it offensive to either himself or those who knew/loved him? It just looks nice to me, and I can't think of any bad implications from Frieren either. I think if someone I knew died I would be happy to see photographs and drawings of them. Is it a religious thing I don't understand?

Oh, I see. I thought they communicated much more complex information than that, but it's very practical for simple directions with no further details.

I cannot recommend that film enough to anyone who's a fan of horror movies which are more than just a fun spoop.

None of that makes any sense. An old book and a new book aren't different in the way a rotary phone and a smartphone are. They are functionally the same object: text on paper.

You could have, for example, a story about someone stranded on an island, and the era it was written in would make almost no difference at all because technology doesn't have any bearing on the story, and we haven't changed as a species. The culture of the author would influence things, but that's true even of media today since we don't all share the same culture.

Old media can also be very illuminating when it does affect the story because it can teach you something about the era in which it was made. You might think to yourself, "Gosh, people used to be able to feed and house their families on a single paycheck? Why can't we do that today?"

And yeah, having stuff in black and white is less visually interesting, but I'm not going to rule out something I might find enjoyable just because of that. I watched quite a few old sitcoms in my childhood that I enjoyed just as much as the modern cartoons, and I still enjoy some of those cartoons today alongside modern TV.

Do you think the Home Alone sequels are better than the original?
