It may actually be part of the depression. We don't know that anyone hates him, just that he believes they do.

In Swedish the prefix for bad stuff is the same as the prefix for not or un-. So a monster is a not-animal and a weed is ungrass. Which is especially interesting to me because that same prefix (o) is for better versions of things in Japanese.

e: This got me thinking about "plant," and I realized it's literally the verb to plant. In Swedish it's a growth, or thing that grew. Japanese and Chinese: planted thing. Spanish is also the same as the verb. I feel kinda bad we mostly talk about them in terms of farming them rather than giving them a proper name. Like if they get sentient someday, plant will probably be considered a slur.

But if the crosswalks are unreasonably far apart then pedestrians are being encouraged by the state to engage in unsafe behavior. As I said, they could erect a small fence to prevent unsafe crossings. This is a failure of the state to serve its people.

I'm not sure how to feel about the driver not being charged, but one should drive with the expectation that unforeseen hazards will pop up at any moment, especially children. I would not be shocked to learn that he was driving one of those enormous American cars that makes it impossible to see short adults, another failure of the state. Or that the speed limit was too high. These things would make me feel the fault is more on the state than on the driver. (But it definitely isn't on the parents.)

As for your dog, just keep it on a lead. It's the safest thing for everyone if all dogs are secured properly while going about town.

e: Also his age. How good is the vision and reaction time of this 76-year-old man? How often are they re-testing drivers?

Maybe if literacy were actually taught instead of being sabotaged by what I can only assume is a plot to increase the pool of incarcerated slave labor we could then move on to more advanced forms of literacy.

Davis addressed concerns about his language on his website, stating that "when I fight Satan, I use the sharpest knives I can find."

I'm not saying I approve of his slur usage, but hot damn is that a quote.

In the case of the Americans I'm most familiar with, they already knew the US is reliant on foreign raw materials and manufacture. The idea is if they stop getting things from China, they'll have lots of jobs and be self-reliant. I've not been able to impress upon them what a terrible idea this is.

I'm glad stoners are so eco-conscious that they're not wasting plastic on packaging.

It's not that paying for things is bad. The problem is that good software is vital to digital artists' income, and both purchasing and learning that software is a substantial investment. When a company sells or otherwise enshittifies their software, the artist is then put in a very hard place. Open-source software is the only way to combat that unfortunately likely scenario. By all means, please pay for that software if you can afford to. Doing so subsidizes usage for less fortunate people who may be able to better their situation as a direct result of your generosity.

They've so far used AI to detect all the different parts of a particular whale species' language, like the different sounds and timing. Deciphering the meaning will be much harder since it's difficult to observe their behavior, but small land mammals should go much smoother.

There are a number of skills that go into working fast food, and your dismissal of them is part of the problem.

A comma can be used to improve readability, but it can also indicate a pause while talking. I feel a pause after "and that" is as common as no pause. That said, I cannot know if that was the poster's intent; it's only my interpretation of the usage.
