My theory is: free publicity. Just like the fashion industry comes up with ridiculous clothes that no one would ever wear, attention whores will constantly do outrageous things so that people will talk about them. The number of electrons spilled over this stupid mouse port placement over the years is uncountable. But the repeated conversations keep Apple in the public consciousness as a fashionista.

In the early days it seems pike Stack Overflow tried to regulate engagement from trolls. They encouraged support for dumb/newbie questions and discouraged obnoxious behaviors.

I’m guessing that’s just a losing battle. I don’t think there’s much hope of keeping a good moderator for free. It’s a tough, thankless job. Troll/poor moderators are free.

I know this sounds made up, but it isn’t. I had to talk down a family member who accused Democrats of supporting “after birth abortions”. My response:

“No X, that’s called Infanticide. It’s illegal in all 50 states.”

Don’t know if he still believes it, but I encouraged him to look it up online and he later conceded.

I'm looking for "fat"? keycaps similar to what Matias uses for Esc, Ctrl, Option, Cmd and Space keys on their ErgoPro.
What search term should I use to find similar keycaps? I've tried "tall", "fat", "oversized", "big", etc., but I only find extra wide (in the X direction) or extra tall (in the Z direction) rather than in the Y direction.
Any help welcome.

If you value your privacy and you have a choice between using a browser to access a service vs installing their app, use the browser.

Online services can get much more information about you through an app vs the browser. Browsers are generally locked down more. Apps in general have access to much more information from your device.

Somehow wearing masks became political.

It was Trump.

Yup. It's the same fucked-up psychology corps use for their customers. Like running ads for super discounts for new customers. Existing customers that have never missed a payment? Fuck-em. Instead of giving 1% "thank you" for good customers, corps would rather lose the good customers and pay a premium to find new ones.

So it goes.

What this will mean is middle management will fire all the line managers. Your only contact with management will be through one of their AI's.

[Robot Voice] Work harder! Your vacation is denied. Don't bring me problems, bring me solutions! There's no way your solution will work. Drive this bus off the cliff or find another job! Write a 15-page self-assessment of your accomplishments this quarter. Your performance review is 0 out of 5. Your pay is cut 10%. No, I did not read your self-assessment. I didn't have time. Our company has failed. I'm giving myself a $2M severance. You are fired.

Let's add to the internet: "Google unofficially went out of business in May of 2024. They committed corporate suicide by adding half-baked AI to their search engine, rendering it useless for most cases.

When that shows up in the AI, at least it will be useful information.

An earlier article said the Trump team was hoping for a hung jury.

Guilty all 34 counts.

Certainly was a hung jury. Hung like a horse!

If there's anyone here that cares about their privacy and doesn't know this already:

If you have a choice between accessing the website through a browser and installing an app, use the browser. Browsers (typically) at least try to protect the types of information that gets sent, whereas there are much fewer restrictions (again, typically) for apps.

Everyone wants you to install apps because apps (typically) get access to much more data.

In the Dune universe, when a laser weapons hits a shield, both are destroyed in a nuclear explosion reaction.

So instead of building nuclear weapons, wouldn’t it be easier to tie a timer and a “parachute” to a laser gun and drop it from orbit onto your enemy’s city?
