Lol, I’m a decision theorist because I had to decide whether I should take a shit or shave first today.
What's your P(doodoo)

Oh yeah sorry, sometimes I forget that board members and execs are the core contributors to human innovation, and that Google spends all its money on hiring the best and brightest think tank people. It’s why they only make good and ethical decisions that no one gets mad at, ever. /s
To be completely fair it appears he has experience in medical research, with some publications in the 80’s. That being said his LI plots his trajectory from just some guy to thinker tanker grifter guy.
My initial reaction was essentially a mix of “sorry to this man” and “well I don’t really expect psychology today to publish anything approaching meaningful on tech/ai” so I wanted to see if those reactions were justified. Well…
This makes PT look like a total rag. The author, John Nosta, bills himself as “The World’s Leading Innovation Theorist and Keynote Speaker” which really just sounds like “lecture circuit grifter” to me. Let’s take a look at the rest of his front page:
STRATEGIST
Driving change that is changing the world. John’s informed voice has become a beacon of insight to help dissect and define innovation in health, medicine, and technology.
INNOVATOR
Not just a simple observer, John is directly engaged with top companies, thinkers and initiatives. His perspective is from the inside out and provides an “insiders” view of a complex and changing world.
THOUGHT LEADER
John is consistently ranked among the top names in health technology and innovation. Beyond simply an influencer, he is also defined as “most admired” to “top disruptor” in technology, life sciences and medicine.
So yeah if you asked chatGPT to come up with the profile for an AI lecture circuit grifter, it’d probably look like the above.
Looking through his contributions to PT you might think he is just recycling armchair AI philosophy to make a quick buck and honestly I’m having a hard time thinking otherwise.
This circuitous, n-tuple negative tenor pervades the whole piece. It's first and foremost frustrating, but after that just sad.
Kind of a tangent: to me it seems that there’s a penchant for right wing accusations to be projections of right wing wrongdoing onto other parties. My go to examples would be fake news (should be self explanatory) and corruption (e.g. Soros bucks).
What would the lab leak correspond to? Off the top of my head I might go with the opioid epidemic, if only so that I don’t speak a US originated virus lab leak into existence.
This is what I wanted, thanks. Stellar work as always.
Ah fuck as a xoogler I do this. Everything I do is terrible (see my advent of code snippets) and I frequently refer to things that existed in the google ecosystem.
Aw dawg, that’s on me for supposing for a moment that his story had truth to it. I did think it strange that this rich dude’s mum had to go to the ER for something, but decided to apply good faith.
So now it’s even more cynical. Scott, who now lives a life of convenience, doesn’t have any of his own stories to parlay into AI hype, so he has to wear someone else’s suffering as stolen valor.
Anyone who uses this site is already too in love with prediction markets to have a functional romantic relationship.
At this point, if a rationalist says SBF is “smart” it’s probably out of shame/denial that they got duped by a junkie
Also, lol @ this exchange: SneerClubMod:
I mod the subreddit, I’m aware of the history of the sidebar quote[\n] Your interpretation of why we did that is incorrect
LWer:
Then why did you do that?

Because it’s a funny example of Yudkowsky’s persecution complex, and therefore an amusing ironic self-appellation
How do they not read this and self-reflect? Oh, that's right, they're in a cult.
He’s saying the loud part out quiet
