I couldn't find the specific reasoning for this change, but I feel like QEMU is probably just too holistic to be appropriate for this kind of project.

QEMU needs to be able to emulate all the ARM hardware with enough fidelity to boot a naive operating system. For the purposes of running userspace applications almost all of that is not required, you really just need to convert one ABI to the other and translate the instructions. No need to handle firmware, the MMU, interrupts, disks etc.

I know you're joking, but it's going to be something dumb like this that gets deniers to rethink their position. It may be some staple that disappears from shelves, or has to be replaced by an inferior substitute, or made with weird ingredients.

If lite beer had to be made with rice, or it got to $100 a case because of climate change fucking up the wheat crop, it would do more than every science paper in the world.

Linux on ARM is stuck in the mud? Huh? Everything works fine on ARM, including the desktop. There are like a billion ARM devices running Linux right now.

Or did you mean Linux on Apple hardware? Because that's by design.

Yeah, I was part of those arguments too. In a perfect world Linux would have enough market share to warrant native ports, but Proton getting Wine one-click integrated into Steam and easily targetable is a more realistic bridge to that scenario than holding out on principle. As it is Linux gaming is in the best shape it's ever been in thanks to Proton.

I also think the argument held more weight 20 years ago, before we started packaging up end user apps in giant self-contained images regularly.

Use the 'scaled' sort for your frontpage. Helps keep the smaller communities you sub to from getting totally drowned out by some of the larger ones.

Yeah, I'll be honest I'm pretty tuned out on the Dems, but the first time I heard about this was an unwanted donation solicitation that started like "I just got off the senate floor..." and it made it feel so transparent that right now, it's performative bullshit.

Could be the start of something, but it won't be until the Dems prove they're effective at something other than fundraising to lose elections.

The actual total in your own link was 5.2 million for executives. The 88 million is, again, the entire salary base just in 2021. Assuming they still had 700 employees (which is a current figure, not 3 years ago) that's still about 120k apiece for everyone else.

I can't tell if you're just being disingenuous or you really can't read your own sources...

The only thing Samba is really great for is interop with Windows. If that's not an issue, Dolphin can browse SFTP directly by adding it as a network share (you may need to setup a password-less key pair to avoid having to login). SSHFS is a similar option and works even if the client is totally naive (it just looks like any other mounted FS).

Wow, that's a lot. We had 119 last year and thought that was a lot. It's still only 8:25 here but we're on pace for maybe 80 this year.

Can't wait for the expansion, 10/21. I've been putting off a new play through for it, and Wube always puts in so much polish (as the FFFs show).

I think there are some exceptions. Like Kitfox publishing Dwarf Fortress. Taking weird little indies and giving them an art / usability budget to become more accessible and, in turn, make the OG devs a bunch of money. Nobody loses.
