It's really hard to generalize about leftist groups. The communists that feel this way have formed co-ops, or are cooperating with anarchists to do something like syndicalism (focused on unionizing existing businesses).

But the methods to start and grow businesses in a capitalist country inherently rely on acting like a capitalist. Getting loans requires a business plan that makes profit, acquiring facilities and other businesses requires capital. Local co-ops exist because they can attract members and customers that value their co-opness, but it's very hard to scale that up to compete at a regional level. It's not impossible, but it's hard to view it as an engine for vast change.

Communists that focus on voting are delusional (in my opinion) but like all reformists they view the existing government as the mechanism to make widespread change.

This is a non-issue. If you're a gaming company in the era of Proton, it makes more sense to just focus on Windows issues than to open yourself to support requests from people running any brand of Linux. Proton is just so much easier to target than standalone Linux and you can serve the Linux community / Steam Deck users without needing any actual expertise.

The patriarchy is also what sends men to die for imperialism, tells them they can't ask for help, admit weakness, or be vulnerable. It's why the ratio of suicides is 6:1 men to women in the US and men are something like 4 times more likely to die deaths of despair, take jobs that destroy their body, or get rejected from jobs that deal with caring or teaching because of biased assumptions of pedophilia and sexual abuse.

Yes, some (read: cis, hetero, rich) men are privileged by the system, and we should absolutely not discount women's experiences, but it's not one or the other, it's both.

Eh, 1% includes like 80 million people globally, they're not all useless billionaires. There are probably a good number of them (likely towards the lower end of the spectrum) that actually work for a living and enough existing resources they'd have time to rework society.

The real question I have is how they'd be distributed. 1% globally or 1% per country/region. Both have advantages and disadvantages for survival.

As the old saying goes: soap box, ballot box, ammo box in that order.

This. So much this. I hate what Discovery did with S31. The Federation isn't the Federation with an official black ops gestapo running around.

Also, I love Michelle Yeoh but I am way more interested in the Capt. Georgiou we missed out on than the genocidal maniac Empress we got.

I love that this exists and I think I know what I'm getting my wife for Christmas

Just hold your ground and keep reading your book, eating alone etc. If someone enters personal territory, shut it down by being honest "I don't want to talk about that" and move on. Resist peer pressure and be who you are, it's the same as it was in school.

Also, talk to your coworkers (I know it's hard) about whether they think it's appropriate. You have an impression they're on board with this level of "intimacy" but it's possible they are just going along to get along.

If persisting doesn't work then it's probably time to find another job. Plenty of workplaces out there that just want you to do your job and no more.

HR is definitely not on your side either, unless you can point to specific violations of policy. They exist specifically to cover their own ass, not to actually make your life better.

Reason number one million capitalism sucks. We should be happy to turn over dangerous or menial jobs to machines but we can't do that because without jobs our society views us as worthless.

Somebody does. Some Milton somewhere in the company will complain vehemently if anything is wrong and will possibly die if it doesn't show up.

Multiple times in my corpo experience I've assumed everyone ignored this sort of internal communique and have had people look at me as if I was skipping a message from God.

Haha, I had the same thought.

I don't have the gaming bandwidth to play the old school shooters these days, but civvie's videos are more than enough to remember what made them great, what made them suck, and where they innovated or did clever things you never noticed.
