"different" sure, different enough that they don't need abolishing, no. or do you think "police abolition" was just a call for reform and rebranding?
I assumed each line represents time, so Spain's values fluctuated some
if you mean bike (as opposed to motorbike) helmet laws I would drop them from your list, they're unscientific garbage which have been found to worsen public health
publicly operated social housing, like in semi functional parts of the world outside the US and UK
I don’t have evidence for you but I struggle to believe that hatespeech laws in europe do not have a suppressive effect upon people performing it. You can go to jail for up to 3 years for it, the state will take several other actions first, but has it as an option and its existence as an option does suppress shit. You can see it, albeit anecdotally.
i also don't know what the overall impact of hate speech laws in europe is – anecdotally, i've experienced as much anti-queer hate speech in europe as in other places without hate speech laws, and those use laws are also used to punish political dissenters (as well as the examples @kristina@hexbear.net says, they led to convictions of BDS campaigners in France, and Azhar Ahmed in the UK for saying "All soldiers should DIE") – but there's a lot of evidence that prison, specifically, doesn't work as a deterrent (example study from Australia).
They’re not a priority while poverty needs attending to in my opinion. Could be a few decades. I would rather the resources were spent on the impoverished people that deserve it rather than kid-gloves for reactionaries.
keeping reactionaries in prison would take a lot of resources away from poverty reduction, and education. even in Brazil, where prison is comparatively less expensive than many places, the 13k-27k BRL / person / year cost is 3-5× the difference between the 10k BRL / person / year poverty threshold and the 15k / person / year minimum wage.
sadly of course "pcmasterrace" went the other direction, polling a bunch of self-selected edgelords about the name went about as expected
evidence points to "Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements" being a "backronym", an abbreviation that was invented after the word was already in usage – have you ever heard anyone calling an american or european car a "rice"?
anyway, happily the c/unixporn moderator didn't agree that it's possible for people not targeted by a racist term to reclaim it for themselves, and that it's not the responsibility of folks pointing out a word's bigoted history to find an alternative, and racist terminology is now banned 😌
I don't agree that it's wrong to write out slurs when talking about reclaiming them, but I edited the post out of solidarity for your experience.
wow what a disgusting take - people with medical conditions can't go out in public for the rest of their lives because wearing a facemask is mildly inconvenient for you?
you wearing a mask could prevent you from infecting dozens if not hundreds of people with COVID over the rest of your life, several of whom could die or get longterm disabilities from it. very unclear how what other people are doing affects that
"nobody cares", except people with medical conditions who can't risk getting COVID so can't go out in public since people stopped wearing masks, or those of us who don't want to be part of a large-scale experiment about the debilitating effects of long COVID. maybe try different anti-fog products, there are some that definitely work. and wear a fucking mask
best I can think of is internet search for the exact filename in quotes. AFAIK the hash is based on properties like torrent name which would he hard to guess maybe?
if you eat or drink any dairy products then you have almost certainly paid a company to rape some animals for you.
