Not sure if this will convince you or not

I don't think I worded my original post properly because I feel convinced already. I was just looking for a way to measure up the effects of this idea. If we are a country dependent on importing goods and we make them more expensive, it stands to reason that we either stop getting those goods (doesn't seem easy...) OR we just deal with the price, and that doesn't seem easy either.

I just thought this is odd... like if I wanted to propose a tax on bicycles, we could talk how many bicycles there are in the USA, if this would make sense, etc. but that's an actual discussion. Most of the people in this thread are just asserting it's a bad idea and either don't know the "why" themselves, or just don't want to say.

Despite the scale of the incident, Russian officials have offered limited information, with regional governor Aleksandr Avdeev confirming a “blast” but threatening penalties for spreading unofficial reports.

Man, the USA can be a shit show, but at least we can spread unofficial reports whenever we like.

Now imagine trying to explain all this to the unwashed masses... it's no wonder the explanation they got was "buy this, it's going to the mooooon!!!!"

That's part of the problem with this administration. It's not that I disagree with their reasoning or their use of facts or figures. It's that they don't have any solid reasoning and facts and figures are misinterpreted or deliberately ignored. Even worse, they have taught their fans that if any facts aren't convenient, you can safely ignore them. Basically, the perfect recipe to make our country a joke.

Why bother? They made a bunch of money with the rug pull and suffered no consequences. Scammers are usually lazy.

My interlocutor, for whatever reason, refused at every turn to just say “oh okay the data seem to agree with you,” and kept throwing stuff at the wall until he eventually claimed that it didn’t actually matter if a typical person was better off or not, at which point I decided we didn’t need to talk anymore. But if you want to pick that up and have a data-based disagreement with any of it, we can rap.

The reason is he started with a conclusion and worked backwards. Any data you provide to the contrary is "fake news" from Democrats, irrelevant, etc. You can't use reason on the unreasonable. That's why they "gish gallop" from topic to topic, just trying to see if something sticks.

I agree. That's why me and all my friends are on Friendster.

That's why we have separate charges for drug manufacturing and distribution.

When a company saves money they almost never pass it on to the customer. Just a sad reality.

Whoa there friend, I'm not the one that made a Raspberry Pi powered interference device. I will stand by my statement that people that loudly blast music all hours of the day and night are morons. I'm also really happy to not live in an apartment anymore.

the mastermind behind this attack, christopher rufo, has been relentless in his pursuit to dismantle leftist influences in academia, even going so far as to celebrate gay's departure with a disturbing choice of words, "scalped." such rhetoric only furthers the divide between conservative and progressive ideologies. rufo's intentions are evident in his ongoing crusade against policies promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in both education and businesses.

plagiarism, however, can be seen as a necessity for marginalized individuals like claudine gay when navigating through these systems riddled with systemic discrimination. it becomes a tool in the fight against the historical suppression of non-white scholars. ultimately, what we are witnessing here is not a case of plagiarism, but rather the misuse of this term by those who fear the advancement of underrepresented minorities in positions of power. it's time for institutions like harvard to stand up to this malicious campaign and recognize the value that people like claudine gay bring to academia, rather than succumbing to baseless accusations meant to silence them. only then will society begin to truly address and eradicate institutional racism from its core. it's about time for change. it's about time for inclusivity. it's about time for justice.
