Something you would really like to do or see, that you could reasonably achieve without too much expense or hassle.

I dreamt that I was hired as part of the team to help Trump hold a rally at place with several warehouses. My job was to go around between warehouses making sure everything was in order and people knew how to get from the main warehouse to the fried chicken warehouse which was about three warehouses down.

The thing was that Trump's show of extravagance for this event was fried chicken. He ordered so much fried chicken that the chicken was kept and served in a separate warehouse so attendants had to walk between the warehouses and see that the boundaries of the pathways were lined with fried chicken. Yes, the edges of asphalt walkway between the main entrance warehouse and the food serving warehouse were sited with fried chicken quarters (leg and thigh). During the prep, it was daytime and the workers were all friendly with each other. Once the event began, it became night time and the workers stayed socially distant. But get this...despite the insane amount of fried chicken that is being wasted on the floor as ornaments and that Trump instructed everyone to go get chicken once the event started, people, including the workers, still had to pay for chicken.

So in my dream, I was working for Trump at a rally, we lined the streets with fried chicken, and we all still had to pay for it. Wtf does that mean? Why am I dreaming about this?

As an outsider (I live in Belgium) it feels very weird and dystopian to see everything happening in American politics with Trump and Musk.

On one side, it's very interesting and almost entertaining; on the other side, it's scary. I can't imagine what it must be like to live in the USA.

Americans, how do you cope? What's your take on the situation?

When talking to other people and bringing up sources, it's common for them to say "I don't like that website" or "it's not trustworthy". On Lemmy, this is most commonly said about Reddit, where you will be questioned if you use it as a source of knowledge or show off something you did there. Wikipedia is another one.

However, the other day, me and a friend noticed something. The most discredited websites all correspond to the most neutral websites. Minus its overt traditionalism, Reddit is pretty neutral and doesn't promote a specific leaning. Wikipedia is another one, as the whole point of Wikipedia was that it could be a source of knowledge made by the people and for the people. Recently ChatGPT became something a lot of people consult, and nowadays you get a lot of ridicule for mentioning things like asking it for advice or going to it to check on something. Quora is a fourth example, in fact it currently has a "spammy" reputation that I don't see the inspiration for. I don't know, this all seems too big a coincidence in our world.

Do these websites (and other ones) really inspire being looked down upon as much as the people around you claim, and which ones do you have the most and least amount of issue with? And why?

So, as we begin another week: what are your little vices or guilty pleasures that help you get through the day?

a practice, behaviour, or habit generally considered morally wrong in the associated society. In more minor usage, vice can refer to a fault, a negative character trait, a defect, an infirmity, or a bad or unhealthy habit

It was so fun back then. Not the yelling and moaning we have going on today.

Here on Lemmy, even in non-political discussions some is always whining about the current president or whatever.

Or calling for alt voices to be banned.

Back in the 80's computer stuff and conversation was more fun and not so freakin' political.

It was about games, DYI, trying to learn to hack, learning the new tech. It was awesome!

I was part of it, but not as much as I could have been because I was in a small town and couldn't afford a lot. But I def had a foot in the scene, and it was awesome!

On the couch by the TV, in a chair by your desktop, on your bed with a laptop..? I usually prefer sitting by the couch by the TV and don't really get how people can just survive having a laptop, or to sit in an uncomfortable chair by one's desktop.

Suspicious Quotes (sopuli.xyz)

Have you noticed that many quotes attributed to famous people are actually incorrect? When someone sends me one of these fancy quotes of profound wisdom, it looks really suspicious to me if:

  1. It’s a picture (as in, not text in a technical sense)
  2. It’s attributed to someone famous
  3. There’s a picture of that person
  4. There’s no source

When I start looking into it, I usually end up reading a quote investigator article that says the original line was written a few hundred of years ago, got mutated many times along the way, and eventually was coupled with the name of someone like Nikola Tesla, Albert Einstein or whatever.

BTW I put that picture together using Imgflip’s meme generator. Seemed appropriate.
