I've played every NMS expedition and while there have always been a problem Communication Stations, it wasn't until this latest expedition that I felt like trolling was getting worse.

On the first day of the expedition, I claimed a spot at the 2nd rendezvous system around some Runaway Mould, built a small base, and uploaded it. I slowly kept adding to the base over time, especially once I completed the expedition. So far I've had at least 8 different people build on top of it, which means I have to report their bases just so I can walk around my own. While I've had some people build close to my base, I have never had anyone literally build on the same spot, much less multiple people.

It stinks that Hello Games isn't doing a better job of making sure bases can't overlap, but it stinks even more that people take advantage of it.

Some thoughts. You can complete it in one sitting.

(1) You will need to earn about 15M credits to buy enough frigates so that you can complete the mission where you complete three frigate missions. I recommend putting some expensive sellable items into the expedition so you can get this started as soon as you finish the first milestone. This is the only timed element to the expedition.

(2) Completing the mission to visit 8 uncharted systems is harder than it sounds. Everyone is fanning out, so you'll have to jump a long way from the path to find uncharted systems. I recommend just stocking up on warp fuel and doing this last.

(3) The most annoying time consuming mission is fishing for 5 uncommon icy fish. Find someone's existing fishing outpost to speed this up once you have the fishing rod.

(4) At one point in the fifth phase, you're supposed to wait for community research. Except you can buy the item for quicksilver right away without waiting. The tooltips are a bit wrong here. Just go to the quicksilver synthesis companion on the space anomaly.

(5) Getting the Normandy is cool if you missed expedition 2 previously. Nice that the reward is a frigate and not just another ship for the collection. It has a special class, "Recon".

Overall, can be done in one sitting if you start the frigate missions as early as possible. Don't worry about the community research.

November 7, 2024. Hello,

This year has already been a very busy one for No Man’s Sky, with 6 updates already this year, including the huge Worlds Update. Our last update, The Cursed, dropped just a couple of weeks ago, and players have been loving the spooky Halloween vibe.

In game development some features take weeks or months, and others take years. Today we are releasing some features that have been years in the making.

CROSS-SAVE

Starting from today we are rolling out Cross-Save support on all platforms. This has been a huge undertaking, and is one of most requested features.

I think this is a bug? I read that this apparently happened to some people with some previous expedition reward ships, but it's the first I've seen it. Steam version.

When I tried to claim the ship, my only claim option was to buy it for 1400 nanites. I hadn't that much left, I basically spent all my nanites on minotaur AI and upgrades (because fuck having to fight yourself in this game). Since I couldn't buy, I had a warning I would not be able to claim it later, and even though I cancelled, while I was trying to farm for nanites that game switched to normal save and I couldn't claim anymore (even from Anomaly).

I've confirmed in another save that the reward is available, but since I don't have that much nanites, I haven't try claiming yet, just in case it got eaten up again.

Like the title said, went to hatch the companion on my main save and nothing happened, I didn’t get the pet and it consumed the egg, I have the slots needed for a new pet but I just didn’t get it

So, now that I've got the Boundary Herald I was considering outfitting it for raiding and seeing if I could make something formidable out of it like my Sentinel Interceptor. For the Interceptor I just used the Sentinel Cannon and the shield-leeching laser... for the Herald, unfortunately, the Sentinel Cannon isn't an option. So what do you use if not that?

I was thinking Positron Ejector and Cyclotron Ballista but it's been a long time since I've re-evaluated my choices so I'd like second opinions.

This is the grand reward of the "Cursed" expedition. Space is getting tight in all our collector's hangars. If you got a chance to test drive this new lady, what is your verdict? Will you keep it? Why? Why not? Curious what you think.

So, I've reached the Genetic Glitch objective... I'm in the Andalen Osaka system... the one the third gate takes you to.

I've found the light creature on the Planet of Light but hunting for every animal across an entire planetary body has never been my thing. I really don't want to do it for five planets (none of the others stand out as being able to spawn anom animals).

Where's the other anomalous animal and about what does it look like? Is it terrestrial or does it live in air, underground, or water?

If you're on the Cursed Expedition, this crashed ship might be a nice upgrade from the C-class starter ship. It's a crashed ship, so lots of repairs to get it into shape, but even partial cheap repairs early in the expedition gave it more cargo and better performance than the starter.

Found on the first rendezvous world, Ecorsfi in the Temarifi X system.

Anyone found a way to silence the voices that taunt us frequently throughout the whole expedition?

I'm having a frustrating enough time of it, I don't enjoy NMS' early game, without this additional vexation.

Whenever I get an item I get the notification from the previous item I received instead. Such as while fishing, I get a notice that I got my heaviest X fish but Y fish was added to my inventory. Then the next catch Z fish is the biggest, but X fish is added to my inventory.

The Mac update is not yet out so I cannot compare.

October 23, 2024. Hello Everyone!

Our last update saw players enjoying a nice chilled time, fishing in No Man’s Sky. Our next update couldn’t be more different! As we approach Halloween, we are embracing the spookier side of the No Man’s Sky Universe, drawing upon threads first established way back in Atlas Rises, when ancient portals began to open and the boundaries between realities first began to crumble…

Today, we are announcing expedition sixteen: The Cursed – where players will fight to keep a grip on reality while haunted by visions and voices from another dimension.

The Cursed takes place in a sort of twilight realm, straddling the boundary between one reality and the next.

Travellers will not have access to hyperdrive technology, meaning no warping between star systems. Instead, interstellar travel can only take place via the ancient portal network.

Haunting voices, leaking through from another dimension, will provide guidance, information, strange blueprints… and mystery. It is up to you to decide who these voices belong to, where they are coming from, and if they are to be trusted.

Was just skimming the community and saw the recent Atlas Scepter post and it had me thinking;

I don't know much about multitools beyond there's several categories, put things I like most in the supercharge slots, and higher numbers in relevant stats are better... in other words the very basics.

My multi is primarily a weapon platform then a scanner and mining tool. So, what category of tool should I be looking for and what should I know about them? I do like the Runic Lens on the Atlas Scepter and noticed the Atlantid mutlis have it as well... could I move that onto a different mutli if/when I replace it?

I can't find anything definitive and the usual information/stat sources don't really list anything at all about it :/ It's existence on the interwebs feels positively forgotten in lieu of Voltaics. All I've really found is one comment that they are the same stats as Voltaics but with the added bonus of the Runic Lens but nothing about what that supposed bonus is. And that seems to contradict other information I am reading about Voltaics and Atlantids.

Anyways, I'm just wondering if there is any benefit to using the Atlas Sceptre over a Voltaic or Atlantid (neither of which I have yet as I'm currently going through They Who Returned).

So ... What Now? (lemmy.world)

I just recently got into NMS just before the Aquarius update. I've really enjoyed things so far, but I'm at a weird point now. Every one of my primary missions has some vague objective that I can't actually complete. The story (as it is) seems to have completely stalled out. I'm left to repetitious side missions like the Base Computer Archives and Settlers.

Is there anything else in terms of story, or am I on my own now? I just figured there would be some sort of resolution to Artemis, Atlas, or any of the really cool and interesting plots that seem to be going on here.

So, I've managed to find an OK location for a base, not sure if I'll actually build it out yet, and rebuilt my freighter base but in the process I've put down a BeatByte Device, found it had ... something on it from the last time I was playing and realized I still don't know anything about music.

It'd be nice to have something playing in my freighter rather than just the ambient sounds from some of the things I've put in it but I remember how well trying to do it by stabbing about in the dark went last time. I'd rather not. So, anyone else not musically inclined? What do you do with the Beatbyte?

Just booted up the game again after a significant time away and figured I'd try doing something new; building a more robust base rather than something that's just practical.

Thing is I'm used to searching only on the basis of practicality. So, how do you find nice locations to build something aesthetically pleasing rather than just fit for purpose?

If any significant number of community members are opposed to this, we can discuss it further.

Judging by the reactions to the recently-posted, now-removed NMS AI content, it seems it's generally poorly-received and people (including me) would prefer it not to be featured in this community.

Interlopers! I'm looking for a moderator (or team of mods) to help me run this community! The Galactic Hub keeps me pretty busy, so I feel we need more coverage to ensure this place continues to run as smoothly as it always has.

This community very seldom requires any sort of moderation, much less any sort of nuanced judgement-call, so any users with a frequent history of contribution to this community would be considered.

Is this possible? Context: My 'home planet' got screwed over in the 5.0 gen updates so my spouse and I decided to do what someone suggested on that thread - RP a planetary disaster and the need to move to another habitable system.

Instead of relying solely on the RNG Gods we decided to be selective and seek out a paradise planet that ticked a bunch of boxes for us (namely nice weather, lack of sentinels, bioluminescent grass, peaceful..... you get the picture).

It has been So. Many. Hours. searching :( We're a busy family and don't have time to continue searching hundreds of systems (after sorting through thousands of stars). So I wondered if it would be possible to stop on an almost perfect planet and then 'terraform' it the rest of the way by using a save game editor to change the planets settings?

I couldn't find any info directly on doing this. But Brave 'AI' seems to think it is possible by editing the raw json (since none of the save game editors have this function directly).

So I download the Goatfungus NMSSaveEditor and took a look at the raw json data. Hoo boy, it's been a while since I needed to edit a save game (many years ago to fix broken storyline progress) and there is a LOT more to that file then there used to be.

If changing planet data is possible, does anyone know where in the json I would go to do this? Searching comes up with many irrelevant matches :/ I'm still on the planet in question as well as having it saved to my wonders (it's the only one there).

TIA!
