Reminds me of reading/listening about the experience of YPG volunteers from abroad where they explained that you had to purchase your own gear and weapons from the black markets so most of them were fighting ISIS in flip flops and trainers.
Good close toed footwear that doesn't rot or fall apart is almost as important as food for running a war. : (
