I haven't looked into how epic works on Linux, but I assume not as nicely as steam. So it's kind of a non starter now

Heroic Launcher has full integration with Wine and Proton.

yeah it really is a non-issue, with something like the Heroic Launcher it really isn't any less convenient than buying from steam.
