Self Improvement
A community which focusses on improving yourself. This can be in many different ways - from improving physical health or appearance, to improving mental health, creating better habits, overcoming addictions, etc.
While material circumstances beyond our control do govern much of our daily lives, people do have agency and choices to make, whether that is as "simple" as disciplining yourself to not doomscroll, to as complex as recreating yourself to have many different hobbies and habits.
This is not a place where all we do is talk about improving "productivity" (in a workplace context) and similar terms and harmful lifestyles like "grindset". Self-improvement here is intended to make you a generally better and happier person, as well as a better communist, and any other roles you may have in your life.
Rules and guidelines:
- Posts should be about self-improvement. This is obviously a wide category, and can range from advice, to finding resources, to self-posts about needing to improve in a certain area, or how you have improved, and many other things.
- Use content warnings when discussing difficult subjects.
- Do not make medical decisions solely because of a discussion you have had with any person here (e.g. whether to take or not take medications; diagnoses; etc.) as we do not vet people. All medical problems should be discussed with a real-life medical professional.
- Do not post harmful advice here. If this is seen, then please report it and we shall remove it. If you are unsure about whether it's precisely harmful advice or not but feel uneasy about it, please report it anyway.
- Do not insult other users and their lifestyles or their habits (unless they ask, I suppose). This is a place for self-improvement. Critique and discussion about a course of action is encouraged over shit-flinging. Don't talk down to people.
More of the same this week. Didn't go to the gym. Worked out just a bit at home. Feeling all over the place in general, just waiting for the holidays to pass.
For 2024:
Ws:
-Finally found some consistency midway through the year up until more or less a week ago in so far as working out. Lost between 15-20lbs (6-9kg for all the metric system heads). Seeing some changes in my body as well, but still have a long way to go to hit my goal of being part of the swoletariate
-Went on my first date in a years. It went well and I have memories from it that I'll hold onto forever.
-Had a few moments where I finally opened up about my emotions to my mom. Its something that I'm still working on, but I'm glad I was able to to the extent that I had.
Ls:
-Still struggling with social anxiety. I was hoping to advance my relationship with my crush after my first date and I can't help but feel like I've stalled. I'm also just still struggling with staying in touch with my old friends and even the ones that I have haven't inspired confidence in my ability to maintain friendships because they end up ghosting me when I suggest we hang out.
-Kind of piggybacking on that, I feel like I try way too hard to make up for my deficiencies in socializing by being a people pleaser, especially in the work place. I'll often work solo shift to give my crew an opportunity to have a social life and that comes from a sincere place, but I also do it so much that looking back I feel like I'm just burning myself out way too much.
Resolutions/Goals for 2025:
-Take better care of myself. I really need to go to a doctor for a general checkup because its been forever. I've also really dragged my feet on trying to get therapy. Also considering getting diagnosed for ADHD/autism to get a clearer picture of what I can do to better live with some of the things I feel.
-Continue to lock in at the gym and lose just a bit more weight.
-Grow my relationships and be consistent with it as well.
looks like very steady progress, and even in your L's you're taking ownership and looking for the route to betterment. Nice job I hope 2025 continues to stack wins for you comrade!
I love your progress
