Haven't bought an HP device since I tried to upgrade the Wi-Fi on my laptop but there was a whitelist in the BIOS and that MF wouldn't even boot.

Lenovo does that too (or did 10 years ago, I haven't touched Lenovo since). There's actually forums full of hackers that will add your MAC address prefix to a bios dump for you for a price

They no longer have a bios whitelist. But you can't seem to install intel wifi cards on some of their amd laptops. They just straight up don't show up in any os.
