MODERATORS
i know i floated something like this a long while back and i suggested anything that's free (easy to pirate) and supports direct connect. gog games are also easy to pirate or can just be shared if you trust the other person.
there used to be a zomboid server and restarting that would be cool. there's also luanti (opensource minecraft).
some f2p stuff could be fun too although i don't really know what's out there now. i know i tried enlisted a few years ago because someone on lemmygrad suggested it.
the problem i had was not being comfortable with directly hosting something on my computer and announcing it on a public site.
I’d be down for zomboid! I don’t really know how to set up a server but I’d be willing to pay for a dedicated server so nobody has to link to their computer (if that’s how that would work, I don’t really know)

It looks like you can just pay for a dedicated server specifically setup for a game. I havent done this before so I can't speak to its quality or anything. it might be kind of costly though
