OP is already living with their partner and making the kid breakfast? and they're worrying about their relationship getting too serious?

They might not be living there, just staying over.

Which is like, tomato tomato, but it's a distinction

The weird part about them staying over is that their partner isn't also home, since they have to text them this information. That makes me think the idea is they're living together. Also in either case it implies that OP is taking care of the kid, since I don't think you should just leave an eight yr old home alone.

Possibly she texted him so that the kid wouldn't overhear them talking about his gift. My daughter's Dad and I used to do that all the time, especially for private talks that we thought might hurt her feelings.

If I was never allowed to be home alone at 8 I feel like I'd have been deprived of some essential freedom. I'm pretty sure I had keys and a bike at that age.

America's extremely risk averse attitude is such a large and ugly stain on the banner of freedom it waves so vigorously.

You think it's weird to leave a person you've been dating for a year and a half alone in your house?

[-] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

My family texts each other all the time when we're in the same house, just too lazy to go upstairs or whatever.

Sounds like it isn't real

[-] Akasazh@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Are you suggesting anybody would do that on the internet, lie? On an imageboard no less?

Preposterous!
