[-] SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 weeks ago

They are called a faggot and then are beaten bloody for it?

[-] loomy@lemy.lol 1 points 2 weeks ago

cursed at, beaten unconscious, robbed, and often murdered.

Yes, your country is a fucking armpit for a number of reasons (I think at last count 347089088 reasons). But it'd be real cool if bigotry wasn't one of them.

[-] loomy@lemy.lol 1 points 2 weeks ago

agreed.

also not the only armpit country.

lol, don't say that about canada

[-] Scott_of_the_Arctic@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

The good bits of the planet are the bits of the arctic not controlled by Russia or the USA. I'm sure the Canadian arctic is just as nice as the Scandinavian arctic.

[-] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

Oh, well I guess rampant violence excuses their bigotry

[-] loomy@lemy.lol 1 points 2 weeks ago

lol. i personally prefer no violence.

[-] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago

So then why excuse the violence?

[-] spooky2092@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

ok but this happens to all kinds of americans dialy for no reason

That sounds very much like excusing the violence through normalcy

[-] loomy@lemy.lol 1 points 1 week ago

normalcy is no excuse for violence

[-] irmoz@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

So what? Does that make it better?

[-] loomy@lemy.lol 1 points 2 weeks ago

no, but it doesnt make it unique

[-] irmoz@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

So what? Does something need to be unique to be awful? And who even said it was unique?

[-] loomy@lemy.lol 1 points 2 weeks ago

generally people don't post about common violence like car accidents, or murder in poor neighborhoods.

but of course it's an aweful story, and fits the sub.

[-] irmoz@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Idk man, I'm sure I've seen posts about "common violence" before

The reason so many people down voted you and this got reported so many times is likely a combination of:

  1. It happening more than it should, which makes it a fit for this sub.

  2. Her identity was the reason she was attacked, she wasn't a random victim.

I don't think you're actually trying to be bigoted, but figured if I wasn't going to remove your comment I should at least try to clear things up.

thank you for the open and communiticative moderation ; it's a breath of fresh air in a ban/censorship hungry internet.

It wasn't meant as a terribly serious comment, any more than a dystopia's boringness, is meant to be a completely serious idea.

I don't believe there is such a thing as random victims. Also, all violence is happening more than it should. Picking and choosing which identities, situations, and thus people ; qualify as dystopian, can be complicated in that way.

However, light heartedness, humor, and framing things as boring, can be a powerful and effective response to otherwise dire circumstances. Which is part of the value of this community, imo.

My ultimate hope is we can start to find ways to unify and create solutions, but your guess is as good as mine on how to do that.

Talking instead of banning, blocking, and censoring is a good start though, so thank you for that!
