I dunno, a woman who had a massive crush on me suddenly asked if I was actually a communist after knowing me for 5 years. we were playing Smash Bros with two other people I had converted to communism over those same 5 years. Apparently she thought I was just doing a bit.

Apparently she thought I was just doing a bit.

This is so fucking funny but I can totally see it happening even if you're just entirely fucking open about communism all the time, literally telling people to their faces that you support communism, and they just see it as a bit because they think you're cool and have heard communism is a bad thing so you can't possibly actually support it. I have seen this level of complete and total lack of political education many times.

This is funny because she has a massive chip on her shoulder about being higher educated than the rest of us. Gets real mad that our political conversations make her feel stupid when she's the only one with a master's.

You mean you don't actually have a PhD? Next your going to tell me you're not even an owl.

Ahh that's the type of person that thinks a piece of paper makes them a more valuable and important person than others. It's a sort of insecurity really. It's one of the ways they validate themselves.

There's a huge difference between that and being in a romantic relationship with someone for 5 years, though.

Edit: I'm curious how that conversation went, though.

Very approximately:
Me: is ranting about capitalism again
M: wait, Owl, are you actually a communist?
Best friend: starts laughing
Other friend: are you serious?
Me: ...why did you think I've been constantly espousing communist ideology for the whole time you've known me?
M: well, I thought you were like, joking about it...
BF: laughing intensifies
OF: M, are you actually serious?
Me: for five years?!

Then she had a huff and went back to playing and I started ranting again (I would often use suicidally aggressive tactics against everyone early in the evening and get knocked out first so I could concentrate on ranting until the next round started (4 stock random characters low items all maps don't @ me)).

Between the autism and being raised by Marxists I've never hidden my radical leftism, so it's not like there weren't signs - me giving detailed breakdowns of the latest news and how capitalism is to blame was a regular thing, and how I converted the other two. I'd dragged them to demonstrations and chatted to the local orgs with them. I know I was so oblivious to her affection I went on a date with her without realising until she tried to kiss me at the end, but I really feel she should have noticed a lot earlier.

She got Falcon Punch'd one too many times and had to come up with an excuse to leave forever.

Falcon Punches are really demoralizing, and in certain situations they are actually ridiculously easy to get. I once played a Sheik who was okay except for not knowing how to sweetspot the ledge, and her teleport is so slow that I can just FP on reaction in the only area where she could teleport and otherwise not die, and like half of my KOs were just that.
