This is the thing that old people get where they think that every issue works both ways. They care about Trump so they assume we have the same opinions about the liberal elites like Clinton or Biden, or Obama.

This is also where the "Father, I cannot click the book" comes from. They can't find reliable info online and think that kids cant find reliable info from books.

This is such a great observation.

In thinking about it I think it kind of works backwards for them, too: they hear that we do care about something, and then they decide that they have to aggressively not care about it, or care in the opposite direction. Like the whole paper straw thing; nobody on the left really cared about it, but there were some conservatives who really thought they were ownin' the libs by using plastic straws.

It's worth noting that there are some Democrats, both politicians and voters, who also endorse this strategy. Which is not surprising, especially for a career politicians, because it's effectively noting that they don't have any values, and also that their tactics are weak.
