If you define "Defending their country" as turning it into a prison that people cannot leave and are then kidnapped off the streets and sent to die (so, are killed), then yes.
The alternative is let everyone who can't make it out die.
Yeah? Just like everyone died in Crimea, Melitopol, Donetsk, Lugansk, and all the other liberated cities? :)
