The Soviets were pretty successful at denazifying Eastern Germany.

No they weren't, east Germany has a lot of good leftists now but also a lot of real Nazis

No amount of denazification of a region can be magically permanent, especially when said region is ruled by nazism from elsewhere.

Ok? I'm not blaming the ussr or the ddr for this at all. But they didn't succeed even at the time. The Nazis succeeded in just surviving long enough underground until they were free to surface again and the east was and remains their biggest stronghold.
