Nietzsche won. The aristocratic mode of valuation clearly is hegemonic if "Hey everyone! Remember, I come from a political dynasty! That's your reminder that I'm good!" is even close to a convincing campaign message. Every society in which that's a reasonable marketing point for a political figure is a deeply sick, reactionary society.
ugh. that reminds me of this insane conversation i had once. years ago, i'm in line at my neighborhood polling place to vote on some municipal shit while also voting against this absolute white nationalist shit wizard who has been ruling his gerrymandered congress district. the guy runs as a folksy everyman, but he's been in the position forever. he's like 3rd generation state political dynasty. had multiple DUIs disappeared when he was in college, including one where he tried to use a fake ID with an out of state cop. goes by his middle name, because his real legal name is like the most Fancylad Buffoonish the IV.
anyway, i'm in line and this gen x bozo in front of me starts yapping about how he likes the guy BECAUSE his father was a big name politically. or, as he put it, "at least he came by it honest" like it was the family trade.... like carpentry, except in this case, the family trade is exercising massive political power.
if it weren't andrew "italian" cuomo saying this i'd be inclined to agree
I think it is more that people can recognise the capitalist mode of doing stuff is fucking awful, but are told that communism is literally the worst thing in existence, so when people look for an alternative to capitalism, they find one that capital doesn't consider a threat and are allowed to pine for a sort of Neo-feudalism.
Was Nietzsche pro-aristocrat?
Short answer: Nietzsche thought that the Jews had hacked morality into making people think that weakness and humility were good and strength was bad. He thought that it would be best for society to abandon the "priestly" mode of valuation and adopt the knightly/aristocratic mode of valuation in which beautiful = strong = aristocratic = loved by the gods = good.
