TLD - .ch vs .org
(lemmy.myserv.one)
Privacy has become a very important issue in modern society, with companies and governments constantly abusing their power, more and more people are waking up to the importance of digital privacy.
In this community everyone is welcome to post links and discuss topics related to privacy.
much thanks to @gary_host_laptop for the logo design :)
You want it to be Swiss?
I’m looking for a privacy-focused TLD.
.ch doesn’t list in WHOIS. It’s also located outside the U.S., so in theory, would be a little more difficult for the U.S. government to interfere with it.
(Ex. If the president decides he doesn’t like my website, .ch wouldn’t take down my site (at least not immediately).)
I’m open to a better recommendation if you have one.
Your domain name could be ordered to be removed from US-based dns providers, no matter which TLD it is. That would essentially block your website from most US-based viewers without actually shutting down your hosting. Advanced users could still get to it, though. Consider hosting through Tor and a .onion address for more resiliency.
By hosting it through tor, they’re effectively removing it from the worlds DNS providers, and limiting their users to a minority of advanced users.
