What you dismiss as a 'just joking' stereotype about gunnownership patterns is actually pretty accurate.

There are more privately owned guns than people in the US, but the majority of those guns literally are owned by 'middle class', pettite bougieose, suburbanites, who literally have miniature armories of ten + guns and tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition, who barely ever use them, despite making a huge performative display of being enthusiastically in pro-gun culture.

It is literally just another flavor of 'keeping up with the joneses', of conspicuous consumption, analagous to buying a huge expensive car to try to impress your neighbors.

They are the same people who are NIMBYs, they are the same people that vote against every single mass transit expansion or infrastructure revitalization project by way of some kind of tax increase, they are the same people who own between 1-10 additional homes as small time landlords and drive up the cost of living in a vainglorious pursuit of their own climbing of the social strata, the same people who vote against public education and for govt tax dollars instead being used to subsidize racially/religiously exclusive private education only attainable by the wealthier.

Yes, they cause all the problems they can sometimes identify as reasons why they will 'need' all those guns, which they largely do not know how to use, nor have any realistic scenarios where they would actually be able to make use of their massive stockpiles, much less transport them.

Their entire 'strategy' is destroyed by a wildfire, tornado, hurricane, which they of course also vote to amplify the risk of.
