The Foundation.
I love sci-fi, but I have tried starting that series twice, and I just can't get into it.
I saw the first three-ish episodes and loathed it all. I've read the original Foundation stories many times. They're basically "Historical Materialism In Spaaaaace" with a side of "Fuck Great Man Theory", and the Apple series is anything but that. The only thing that bears any resemblance to the books in the Apple adaptation is Hari Seldon's trial scene in the first episode.
The cloning dynasty thing is particularly goofy. The entire purpose of the aristocracy in the original books was to point out how totally replaceable they are, and how it's the collective Empire's trillions upon trillions of functionaries that's really effectively setting policy. Emperors do not matter. The Empire just keeps on its materialism-defined course, no matter the decisions of the current assassination target sitting on the imperial throne.
The first season was a low budget dumpster fire, but the quality and budget significantly went up in seasons 2 and 3.
It made me glad to have endured the bad, the payoff was worth it. Really helps that the story underpinning the show is quality
I like the books quite a bit but didn't even get through the first season. I don't even care much whether an adaptation is faithful or not.
