Yeah, I can’t think of a more apt word tho…
Demon has religious connotation which I try to avoid, but maybe that would piss off the Christian zealots… idk…
Monster is non-denominational, but doesn’t seem has potent as “ghoul”…
Either way, these freaks are deranged… yearning to see people tortured is fucked beyond understanding, but especially so when it’s a victimless crime.

Wendigo is probably not a good one given the rampant appropriation of indigenous culture surrounding it.
That's very true. Another great thing about ghoul is the adjective is just as good.

I think the best solution is if a load word from another language becomes popular.
Fiend is a good one actually.
I guess fiend is best but I don't think it's a good substitute. And it has a certain degree of levity: He plays guitar like a fiend.
Yeah thats a good point. At this point just calling them evils pieces of shit could work too, it just doesn’t have the same brevity of a single word lol.
I'm going to go with
descriptor + ghoul: evil ghoul, vile ghoul, horrible ghoul, the worst ghoul, a repulsive ghoulBut nothing is better than an apt noun. Oh, well.
I've thought of ''wight'' before, because it sounds like ''white''.
