The best open source Video Calling alternative to Discord is Element. It's not free, so if you're looking for a free alternative, you could try Element

Alternativeto is a great resource but those summary paragraphs can be ignored. Scroll down a bit and you can see user reviews for each suggested alternative.

I think the "it's not free" is related to discord since there is a paid discord. But the sentence is quite confusing.
