Now that the first side has attacked, Iran can now retaliate without being called the aggressor.
Best strategy:
If they take out as much aircraft/refuelers as possible whilst they are grounded, it allows them more chance for a sustainable battle. Without air superiority they cannot sustain their attacks indefinitely. Iran already said their response would be swift and different this time so it would match what was expected. (*See note below)
Use enough missiles to damage / sink the carriers so that the soldiers are forced to abandon them. Then use rescue boats to take the survivors to shore and use them as leverage for negotiations. Heavily publicize this on media channels showing real American lives being used.
After that initial strategy, either America will back down or it will be a sustained campaign and they can then take whatever means necessary to achieve the end goal but this way it deals the necessary and limited blow needed for preventing a prolonged war.
I'd say it would also be a good idea, toghether with attacking the carriers and planes, to attack all leaders of nearby countries that helped in retaliation to the attacks agains Iran's leaders. If they can take just one down that's already a big problem for the imperialists, as they would need to help stabilise these countries by themselves during the exchange of power...
My addendum to this: launch cheap stuff first, like drones, the force the carrier to deplete its very expensive and hard to replace anti-air missiles, then, when the anti-air missiles runs out, launch more potent stuff like missiles.
Houthies proved that a carrier is at its weakest when it is launching planes as its defenses might hit its own plane then. So, just launch missiles at that point, you damage the carrier and, as a bonus, possibly injure or kill a pilot (more expensive than the plane)
