Commas basically go where you want to separate two thoughts in a sentence or "take a breath" without the full stop of a period. They also often separate objects in lists

(Example)("Yesterday I saw a deer, a sparrow, and a nonfiction book.")
, or signify that you're talking to somebody.

A classic joke:

"Let's eat grandma!" vs. "Let's eat, grandma!"

"Commas save lives!"
