Usually, a US expeditionary group consists of at least three ships. In the new group, the USS Boxer (LHD-4) serves as the core. It carries F-35B Lightning II fighters, MV-22B Osprey tiltrotors (for possible rapid deployment of troops deep into Iran), and AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters.
Inside it is a huge docking chamber (a flooding compartment), from which LCAC air-cushion landing craft can exit. The second ship is the USS Portland (LPD-27). This is an amphibious assault ship. It transports tanks, armored vehicles, and heavy equipment of the 11th Expeditionary Corps. The third ship is the USS Comstock (LSD-45). It can carry up to 4 LCAC air-cushion landing craft. If there's a need to quickly unload heavy artillery or armored vehicles on the unarmed coast of Iran, this is a task for the "Comstock".
Thus, it can be assumed that if something happens to the USS Boxer, the first-tier forces providing the strike and further cover for the landing force will be destroyed. Technically, a landing is possible in such conditions, but the risk of losing the entire landing force will be significantly higher.
