Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

A: you assume I'm American. I'm not. That's an insult where I'm from.
B: it's not open to everyone, don't be stupid. It's a walled and managed garden like every social media, just the walls are guarded by volunteers instead of staff. And instead of single source of moderation, it's literally hundreds of teams working together (Federation)
C: Right, let's say that someone says something shitty and bigoted, you saying I should let them stay, in the interest of "balance"? Just answer that
I'm saying that not every conservative is shitty and bigoted. Lemmy doesn't want to admit that though. That's my point.
Lemmy has about 1.366 million registered users worldwide (with monthly active users way lower, around 48,000–50,000). That's less than 0.0004% of the US population of roughly 343 million. Not even close to representing how the general US population feels about things.
They're not all shitty and bigoted, but they are all comfortable with shittiness and bigotry, and that's functionally the same thing
Not true. Again, you can't speak for everyone and you are just spouting the usual extremist stuff that Lemmy does. The fact that so much of Lemmy thinks reddit is actually conservative tells ya how out of touch people here are. lolol
How else to you reconcile being on the same side as all the bigots? You are clearly comfortable with them
I'm not republican tho. I said they are not terrible people. But hey, we're on Lemmy, where's its dangerous to have a different opinion....lololol
How old are you? And what do you do for work?
I didn't suggest Republican, I suggested conservative. Having different opinions isn't dangerous, but some opinions are dangerous, so maybe don't believe hateful dehumanizing things or be comfortable with those who do and suddenly you'll find people more accepting.
And I'm 400 years old and the King of Wales, professionally, since you seem to think either of those factors have some bearing on my opinion.
Then you don't know how America really is and have no room to talk with any authority about it. All you know is what you have read on news and Lemmy. That's only accurate for extreme stuff. The vast majority of the US is quiet and boring. Which is awesome.

Good cherrypicking, look at B and C
Cool. I don't care
That's obvious.
