Second fun fact! Deputy Freeland, a fluent Ukranian speaker, went to Ukraine to study the Ukranian language in college. While there, she had unrestricted access to the Canadian diplomatic pouch, as well as being closely linked to the Canadian diplomatic corps there, all while being just an average student and anti-Soviet activist without governmental ties.
