Users here cheering this, I hope you realize Gaza is going to get flattened.

[-] h3doublehockeysticks@hexbear.net 110 points 2 years ago

There is nothing Gaza could do that would satisfy Israel. Eventually Israel would kill, bomb and maim regardless of the actions of Palestinians, and framing it any other way is dishonest.

I support whatever Palestinians support, I trust that they understand the stakes better than anyone else. To me, the timing seems as good as it could be: massive political instability in Israel, west distracted in Ukraine, Iran seems ready to support, and the Saudi-Israeli normalization talks were happening this week and making progress. This offensive and whatever retaliation Israel attempts could derail that entire agreement.

Bibi is probably going to pass his reforms now. I do think if the situation gets too bad the US is going to send aid to Israel like they always do.

Iran seems ready to support

Hezbollah already said they will attack if Israel invades Gaza.

As opposed to when they flatten it regularly?

Would rather cheer instead of preemptively cry like you do

israel-cool idf-cool palestine-strong

[-] PM_ME_YOUR_FOUCAULTS@hexbear.net 58 points 2 years ago

So much braver to sit around and be slowly strangled to death by the Israeli occupation

[-] BrezhnevsEyebrows@hexbear.net 28 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Would you rather they be flattened at Israel's lesiure without any resistance?

[-] AssortedBiscuits@hexbear.net 24 points 2 years ago

Brilliant insight. I'm sure absolutely no Palestinian would've known the Zionists would retaliate by bombing Gaza. They pulled off this military operation without considering something that the Zionists had always done.

easy to cheer for blood from your computer in the global north

[-] Gay_Tomato@hexbear.net 46 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Do you really think Palestine would value your "pity" more then shows of support and solidarity because your supposedly "non-western?" Why even bother making this thread if they were such fools in your eyes for even trying?

[-] coeliacmccarthy@hexbear.net 13 points 2 years ago

I said none of that, you're arguing with a person you made up

Were you referring to the people openly wishing genocide in retaliation? Otherwise I don't understand how you could possibly discern the comparatively few people from the west who would be cheering this on.

[-] CarmineCatboy@hexbear.net 22 points 2 years ago

what else is new

[-] ZapataCadabra@hexbear.net 22 points 2 years ago

What do you propose Palestinians should do instead to liberate themselves?

[-] blight@hexbear.net 6 points 2 years ago

Maybe if the palestinians packed up all their stuff, freely gave everything they had to the settlers, then dug their own graves and jumped into them, the settlers would be happy and maybe even reconsider their project. It's worth a try!

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
