MODERATORS
This is the quote that I keep coming back to today. Liberals only care for the pain and suffering of the oppressors, they only fear the horrors carried out by the oppressed. They don't question what has driven the oppressed, the ordinary people, to such extremes, they do not care for the generations of suffering, the centuries of thievery and brutality that the oppressed have been subjected to.
It’s even more poignant when you realize that when Twain wrote that, the Reign of Terror was used in the same way that “communism killed 100 million” is used today: as a cudgel to silence anyone who just wants something better. The Terror was invoked by monarchists and liberals alike as a cautionary tale of what happens when you try and let the people rule themselves.
