Hey man, when I was a kid and I, too wished to share my energy with Goku, it was hard holding my hands up for the seven episodes it took for him to throw it.
they really perfected the soap opera cliffhanger
Sometimes, it was the Z crew themselves after every member, including Goku got their ass kicked, e.g. Broly.

The Tournament of Power was won through the teamwork of an utterly exhausted Goku, Freeza, and Android 17. That was pretty cool.
Generally, though, yeah. Everyone has such vast differences in power that the bad guy could kill everyone but one or two good guys in his sleep.
