According to my librarian wife, this is one of the largest library systems in the country, if not the world.

Of all the targets, why a library? One of the few places that is still for near everyone

And with limited budgets. Libraries have trouble making ends meet. They're non-profits. They couldn't afford the pay the ransome.

Free information, education and entertainment without restrictions is a danger to fascism.
Destroying that empowers psychopaths to be able to brainwash it's citizens.

This is why we need public libraries all over the world. And a free open, uncensored internet to accompany it.
Each individual should make decisions about what is appropriate for themselves, not a government, a religion or terrorists.

Don’t these right wing crazies have vendettas against the public library systems? Also there are lots of foreign hacker/troll farms that would love to do things like this

Obviously there is no proof of this out there, but they are definitely possibilities

Every attack of this type is hurting someone in the world. Some are worthier targets than others but the people who are committing the attacks definitely DGAF about the impact.

Most of these attacks are just sent out to everyone. Doubt the hacker specifically targeted a library.
