I'm on the other side, I moved out of the US several years ago but sometime next year I think I'll quit the job I took in my new country. So I need to decide if I'll stay in the country (I moved with work) and fully integrate, or move back. But I'm also getting married to my partner I met here, which makes it complicated.
The idea of moving back to the US makes me kinda sick, but it's also expensive and can be complicated to live abroad. Taxes? Social security eligibility? Contributing to retirement? Bank transfers and currency conversions, expensive flights home for the holidays... learning a new language.. it can be either exciting or overwhelming.
For you I'd recommend making sure you have residence lined up first before you move to another country. Usually this is done by getting a job, but that can be difficult if you need them to kinda sponsor you or be willing to assist with residency stuff. It will be confusing if the instructions aren't in a language you know. And it will work differently than what you're used to. You'll get very good at filling out paperwork.
Edit: but whatever you do, get out of Ohio ๐
Thanks I appreciate the advice, exactly the type of clear advice I need to hear.
