American here, I’m a big fan of Stephen Fry so I knew about him from A Bit of Fry and Laurie. I know I’m an outlier in the statistics.
Jeeves and Wooster here, but lump me into that outlier group with you.

British people know how sophisticated he really is
I was VERY surprised when I heard his real accent as a kid.
So were the production team of House. They totally thought he was an American and were surprised when he first spoke with them in his natural voice.
