At first glance my reaction was, wow Ron aged so bad then I realized the last two pictures were Alan's.

Anyway why does it look like Ron is getting older every sentence? Why is the 3rd picture from a different interview?

[-] dustyData@lemmy.world 75 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Because they're quotes from different interviews. The second interview is from the reencounter special, he was asked what happened to the drawing in the anecdote during the section that memorialized Rickman.

Hans Gruber did NOTHING wrong!

[-] RegalPotoo@lemmy.world 31 points 1 year ago

Fun fact, in the shot of >!Hans Gruber falling off the building at the end of Die Hard!<, Alan's look of shock is genuine - he was rigged up on a harness with a quick release above a crash pad, and was told that they would be releasing him on a count of 3, but the director got the stunt coordinator to release him on 2 instead

I can never seem to get what the spoiler format is here.

[-] Jknaraa@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

spoilerThere's a spoiler button just above the text box.

[-] Kaijobu@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Interestingly, this does not work on Eternity.

!This apparently does, though.!<

It is done by >! text !<

But I still don't know and just uses a button on the app.

Edit: strange, as this is what the user did in the first place but doesn't show as spoiler for me either.

[-] Doombot1@lemmy.one 6 points 1 year ago

Neither of them work on Memmy, lol

[-] 5redie8@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago

Add Voyager to that list.

Guess we're decentralizing markdown formats too lmao

[-] Kaijobu@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 year ago

I hope that gets unified at some point.

Spoiler text somehow only works for myself, even if others used the same syntax.

Open a bug report with your frontend!

[-] Jknaraa@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The actual text used is [

spoiler] then [your message] then [:::]. The second "spoiler" can be replaced by whatever word you want.

spoiler like this :::

[-] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Not working on Voyager, none of the comments in this chain do

[-] JackbyDev@programming.dev 4 points 1 year ago
Harry Potter spoilersSnape kills Dumbledore
[-] bhamlin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

You just put it in and it automatically spoilers it. See? >!hunter2!<

[-] SadSadSatellite@lemmy.dbzer0.com 31 points 1 year ago

I've never seen him play anything other than a stoic dick. It's almost hard to think of him as a nice guy.

I'm sure many (American) people think Hugh Laurie is like House in real life too 😂

[-] Dagamant@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago

American here, I’m a big fan of Stephen Fry so I knew about him from A Bit of Fry and Laurie. I know I’m an outlier in the statistics.

[-] kylua@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Similar story but I'm Italian

[-] Thrashy@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Jeeves and Wooster here, but lump me into that outlier group with you.

[-] Wanderer@lemm.ee 15 points 1 year ago

British people know how sophisticated he really is

[-] Halosheep@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

I was VERY surprised when I heard his real accent as a kid.

[-] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

So were the production team of House. They totally thought he was an American and were surprised when he first spoke with them in his natural voice.

[-] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 25 points 1 year ago

That's the power of acting and when done by a master, it's hard to imagine anything other than what they give us.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I'm pretty sure this is the first picture I have ever seen of him with a genuine smile on his face. In all his movies he doesn't actually smile, he does a condescending sneer.

[-] Psaldorn@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

By Grabthar's hammer..

[-] flicker@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago

But... he was the Metatron.

[-] Hazmatastic@lemm.ee 15 points 1 year ago

The one, the almighty? And voice of the One True God?

[-] flicker@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I'm so grateful you were here because I typed that all out as if on reflex and realized it was a bit much and deleted it but it felt so naked not to say the whole thing!

[-] Hazmatastic@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

Right back at you lol it felt naked to me too. Sometimes you just gotta

[-] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Saw a movie earlier with him in it called Bottle Shock. Title might be one word. He plays a smug character but really he is just British in the movie. Came out in 2008. It was about California making wine. I enjoyed it but it is by no means thrilling. If you have watched everything else you want to see, go for it.

[-] cashews_best_nut@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Wait, do Brits come across as smug?

[-] Death_Equity@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

The posh ones, yes. The banter doesn't help the rest.

Americans take banter personally.

[-] TIMMAY@lemmy.world 30 points 1 year ago

Man I miss him. Galaxy Quest and Harry Potter were giants in the psyche of young me

[-] abracaDavid@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Alan Rickman's death was a tragedy.

Don't know what you've got until it's gone.

[-] Tier1BuildABear@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

He was absolutely hilarious in Dogma

[-] mcqtom@lemmy.world 27 points 1 year ago

I so thought you were telling me Rupert Grint had died.

[-] creditCrazy@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago
