Centrists are bad. But radical centrist "thought leaders" are the absolute worst. They have a take on everything related to politics and each and every take is shit. And the worst of the worst are people like Chait and Thomas Friedman. On top of their awfulness they add in some intolerance or racism or hatred and the US media takes them seriously on their "think pieces".
