Oh yeah the results were "fine" with Reagan, what we need is another Reagan.

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 46 points 7 months ago

Notably fine president, Reagan

[-] btfod@hexbear.net 29 points 7 months ago

To the left of Biden on Palestine... fuck Reagan of course but just sayin.

What if the advisers are making good decisions?

The advisers are not making good decisions.

Legitimately sounds like the defense of Dianne Feinstein when her mental deterioration came up. It was "well Strom Thurman basically wasn't coherent at the end and Dianna should be given the same leeway"

[-] beef_curds@hexbear.net 33 points 7 months ago

Yeah, I suspect this will probably be the final argument line unless they actually force him to step down.

Libs, and the dem establishment especially, are institutionalist to the core. And they think that this kind of argument will work on voters. The institution will govern, and the other guy will wreck the institution... so the choice is obvious.

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 20 points 7 months ago

It's hilarious to me to listen to the lib talking heads say stuff like "Voters need to vote for democracy," by which they mean we must vote for Biden. And then if Biden loses - they'll blame voter apathy. I'm not apathetic. Like many voters I'm actively engaged in not voting for Genocide Joe.

[-] Mardoniush@hexbear.net 32 points 7 months ago

Ah yes, because late period Reagan was known for great policy decisions.

From the press briefing: what about a mental competency test?

At the briefing that just ended a reporter mentioned that Nikki Haley previously asked for Biden to take a mental competency test.

Jean-Pierre responded that she's "not a medical doctor" and doesn't plan to "opine" on "anything of that nature".

To assauge the age concerns - and questioning - she recalled a conversation she had with one of Biden's doctors last year.

Jean-Pierre said the doctor told her that "because of the president's actions every day and what he deals with ... that shows that the president is very much active and understands what's going on".

Blue MAGA at its finest.

About six months ago I remember some dem partisan hack said he met Biden and spoke with Biden's advisors and he was impressed with how sharp Biden was and by the stories Biden's aides told him. Maybe it was Jon Favreau. It was typical of last year's message about Biden's mental acuity. In this year's messaging I note a destinct downward trend in how they speak about Biden. Words like "sharp" are now replaced by whatever this is...

"Very much active and understands what's going on."

That could be definition of a young guy who just came out of coma but has a bit of brain damage so a reporter says he could still get a simple job and be a productive member of society.

[-] happybadger@hexbear.net 23 points 7 months ago

I spoke to a doctor I won't name in a different year and he said Biden is "aware of his surroundings".

source: trust me

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 18 points 7 months ago

We are very pleased with the abilities Biden demonstrated. At one point his powers of adaptation and flexibility were highlighted as he lifted up his leg and retied his shoelace. I must stress that he did so all by himself. And then everybody cheered.

[-] SuperZutsuki@hexbear.net 10 points 7 months ago

Sharp like sphere, that old Diamond Joe

[-] 0x0520@hexbear.net 11 points 7 months ago

"because of the president's actions every day and what he deals with ... that shows that the president is very much active and understands what's going on".

You can't diagnose a sitting president. I have presidential immunity!

You know he's done the clock test at some point. I hope someone leaks his clock drawing the night before the election.

"If his advisors draw the clock for him, is that unacceptable?"

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 29 points 7 months ago

CNN anchor: "Is it true aides drew the clock for him?"

Dem partisan hack: "As we all know the president is highly - highly - preoccupied with the humanitarian crisis in Gaza along with all issues some of which are vital to natural security interests—"

CNN anchor: "I have to interrupt. Did the president draw the clock himself?"

Dem partisan hack: "In addition to issues I was not able to finish speaking upon - the president is laser-focused on—"

CNN anchor: "I must ask again. A simple 'yes' or 'no' will do. Did the president draw the clock himself?"

Dem partisan hack: "The president is dealing with domestic issues of concern to the American peop—"

CNN anchor: "Oh, my goodness! Answer the question please!"

Dem partisan hack: "The president composed the circle of the clock. The hands and numbers were not composed by him."

That night Lawrence O'Donnell dedicates the entire first half of his show to demanding an end to the "unwarranted attacks on the president's mental acuity". He also states how "another network used drawing ability to belittle the great American and a great American patriotic President Joseph Robinette Biden".

[-] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 24 points 7 months ago

This is just like tsarist Russia. How do we know Biden isn’t a Ruzzian agent being controlled by a hairy monk?

[-] AssortedBiscuits@hexbear.net 22 points 7 months ago

The Prince:

And if there are some who think that a prince who conveys an impression of his wisdom is not so through his own ability, but through the good advisers that he has around him, beyond doubt they are deceived, because this is an axiom which never fails: that a prince who is not wise himself will never take good advice, unless by chance he has yielded his affairs entirely to one person who happens to be a very prudent man. In this case indeed he may be well governed, but it would not be for long, because such a governor would in a short time take away his state from him.

[-] Dolores@hexbear.net 19 points 7 months ago

there is not a single high level democrat with scheming vizier chops

[-] Dolores@hexbear.net 18 points 7 months ago

i'm not vote ing for fucking advisors, JON.

i mean im not voting for biden period but some democracy where you can vote for one person and an unreleated crew of handlers comes in to actually make decisions

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 16 points 7 months ago

When Feinstein was still alive - Lawrence O'Donnell actually made the argument that senator's aides do all the work anyway. If that's true - then we should skip having senators and representatives and vote for cardboard cutouts. When a bill is debated - cutouts are brought in as symbolic people. But the aides that actually read the fucking thing are there too. And they can debate knowledgably because they actually read the fucking thing.

This is silly - I know. I know we'd still get bad actors like Raytheon perverting things. And then aides would get big heads and they'd get their own aides and we'd be back to the beginning. We wouldn't know their names of the people actually paying attention and doing the work.

[-] Melonius@hexbear.net 3 points 7 months ago

The Michael Jordan in his Chicago bulls jersey cutout has the floor

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 3 points 7 months ago

The chamber fills with anticipation. Can he still dunk?

---

O'Donnell has a million shitty opinions and his pathetic excuse-take that Feinstein's age and mental ability don't actually matter is probably only the 2,015th worst take he's ever had. And it was obvious before he said a word that he was going to make an excuse because he's a dem shit head. Plus he said it many months ago. ~8 months? On top of all of that - she died not too long after he said it. It's possible the last few years of her life she'd have failed the clock test. It's not even a debatable if a 90 year old should be a member of congress. Of course not! Of course age matters.

Yet his take still irrationally bothers me.

America now admits what it truly is: a competition to see who can go the lowest of lows...

[-] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 13 points 7 months ago

They're not even trying to hide it at this point.

[-] GnastyGnuts@hexbear.net 9 points 7 months ago

That's not even good as damage control, wow.

Centrists are bad. But radical centrist "thought leaders" are the absolute worst. They have a take on everything related to politics and each and every take is shit. And the worst of the worst are people like Chait and Thomas Friedman. On top of their awfulness they add in some intolerance or racism or hatred and the US media takes them seriously on their "think pieces".
